Mark Vennis & Different Place, the wonderful POST PUNK veterans from England, release their single “Solid Ground”. A song about environmental collapse, presented in three different versions, each one better than the next.

We are clearly facing a pivotal moment as humanity, with climate change standing out as a crucial challenge that demands our immediate attention. Mark Vennis & Different Place know this and decided to do something about it.
Writing a song about the environment without sounding too fatalist is difficult, but the band pulled off a track that not only addresses the matter in a serious way, but also presents a musical composition that soothes the listener.
Taken from their latest Sunrise EP, this single is being presented with an exquisite addition of an electronic remix as well as an acoustic version.
The remix, called the “Escape” remix, partly draws its inspiration from filmmaker John Carpenter’s classic scores to Escape from New York and Assault on Precinct 13.
“Solid Ground”, the original single was constructed with a simple melodic approach and a steady beat similar to Indie and Folk. Well thought stops and go’s make the song flow easily, and the addition of a bridge section definitely spices things up.
The chorus is catchy and uplifting, with the drums taking a huge part in elevating the energy.
The “Escape” remix is a bit more fast paced, with electronic drums and simple but elegant percussion that adds both ear candy and groove. The guitars remain the same, but the bass is more present and shimmering synths take the whole atmosphere to another realm. Also, guitar solos!
The acoustic version is to me the best, as each instrument sound beautiful and the whole soundscape is so soothing and warm. The vocals really pop on this one, and the acoustic guitars sound crisp. Definitely my favorite of the three.
