Canadian punk trio The 351’s is back with Against All Odds, their second EP following last year’s No Replacement for DISPLACEMENT AND continue their streak of impressive melodies that hit hard. The four-track record is a gut punch of energetic songs that beam with authentic rebellious spirit, raw punk attitude and unapologetic determination.
A band like THE 351’s is a breath of fresh air to the international punk scene, wreaking strong melodies and anthemic lyricism that feel utterly new, at the same time, celebrating all of those who came before them. Against All Odds is an EP fueled by fury with a take-no-prisoners approach, borrowing many elements from 80s classic punk while making it their own. On their new EP, the band does a remarkable job sharpening their daggers and taking their music to the next level, sounding thicker and fuller than ever before.
Against All Odds, according to the band themselves, “is a battle cry for those who refuse to back down” and that energy is what establishes the record as a dynamic force of nature. This is particularly true as they open the EP with “KING OF NUTHIN’”, a fun mixture of a statement song and a diss track that is an absolute explosion of distorted guitars with great sense of melody. From then on in, The 351’s continue their remarkable brand of punk rock with experimentations like the reggae riff on “DEVIL’S DAUGHTER” only to return harder than before on “GLASS OF MOSH PIT BLOOD” with its great chant-like vocals and tongue-in-cheek lyricism.
THE 351’s are quickly becoming a household name in punk rock, their fast-paced tracks bring forth the perfect blend of fun and defiance like any good punk record should. Their all-out 90s skate punk influences on the closer “RUPTURE” sound more like Rancid than Rancid ever did and the dynamics navigated by the trio on it are outstanding.
