De/OS releases “Rise I”, a hypnotic tale of resilience and spirit

The new single of De/OS, “Rise I”, gives a shimmering look into the power and beauty of sheer resilience driving humans to keep going, and the spirit guiding them towards the future. Though in daily life they’re not as noticably present, both of them plus hope put together the desire to live, and that is something incredibly strong.

“Rise I” was inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise” nodding to the power of self-esteem and confidence. De/OS did not include any words into his music, instead the message is brought along by airy sounds, choral, highly spiritual and glistening in the light like heavenly pearls. There’s something very untouchable here, a force of survival that will not give in to any adversaries. In a way, that force is an individual’s guiding north star.

This track is meant to serve as a musical spark for social activism—a call to rise against oppression and systemic injustice, aiming to make the world a better place. My hope is that listeners will engage with Rise I in various ways: allowing it to envelop them like a comforting, hopeful blanket as they wind down their day, or using it to awaken a dormant or suppressed part of themselves, motivating them to act on their beliefs.
De/OS

It’s shimmery sound was not initially planned, as De/OS was working on an orchestral piece on this theme. However, when he came across airy synth sounds reminiscent of never-ending stream of vapor rising towards the sky, the plan quickly changed and embraced a minimalistic ambient structure. “Rise I” desires to heal the souls of worn-out listeners and remind us that the beautiful things we create and consist of as humans need a concentrated effort to preserve and evolve.

“For those hearing my music for the first time, expect a raw, sincere expression, with emotions that are both unfiltered and genuine. As a self-taught, constantly experimenting musician, my music often defies categorization into a single genre.” De/OS

Rising like steam towards the light and away from the dread, and the driving force of resilience are also personally significant for the artist himself. Born South-Korean and now living in America, De/OS lost his father as a child and found solace in the melodies of surrounding nature and an abandoned piano. His musical explorations, free of constraints set by adults, have led to rich and imaginative music following the artist’s curiosity in multiple fields, from engineering to medicine, as well as reflecting the joys and tragedies of humankind.
