Irish singer and songwriter Lex Bucha is back with brand new single “High Altitude”, his second single of the year following the amazing “Now You Know”. Lex navigates a soft electropop atmosphere with mesmerizing synths and thoughtful lyrics, and on “High Altitude” he seems more comfortable than ever. As the artists takes on delicate themes like self-discovery and disillusionment, his new single reveals itself as a heartfelt ballad that found its inspiration in the mundane.
“High Altitude” was written by Lex Bucha when he felt sick while visiting Peru, due to the literal heights, but according to the artist himself, the song quickly became something bigger. “We spend so much time chasing the next high, believing we’ll find meaning at the top, but sometimes we’re so caught up in the climb that we lose sight of what really matters”, he continues. It’s a fantastic metaphor, really, and proves how smart Lex is as a songwriter.
Lex creates a fascinating soundscape that feels minimalistic and inviting, guided by a shy acoustic guitar and shimmering synths. “High Altitude” shows the Dublin-based musician at his most intimate, relying on softness in both sound and vocals. At the same time, it’s a very ambitious track that tackles so many emotions and feelings with vulnerability and grace. It’s a slick song that ebbs and flows organically, unfolding multiple layers of meanings and giving every one of those feelings its proper care.
