Producer and songwriter David McClintick Roberts is back with a brand-new track from his project Rye Catchers. “Lie to Me” comes after several releases in 2025 since March, including a full-length album Mixed Messages and some remixes that further explore the diverse electropop sound Rye Catchers is known for.

Their latest effort shows the group expanding into a more soulful territory, as hinted by other singles. This new song offers a soundscape loaded with interesting influences, ranging from R&B to new wave, but with a certain softness that feels so good. Featuring vocals from Nashville singer Taylor Matthews, the track unfolds as a conversation between lovers that keeps up with the theme of ‘mixed messages’ navigated on their previous record.

It’s a track that blends brooding introspection with danceable pop hooks, giving it a refreshing perspective on the synthpop genre. Rye Catchers crafted a song around the relatable concept of avoiding hard topics and preferring to be told easy and comfortable white lies. “Lie to Me” sets a very intriguing atmosphere as the narrator blatantly asks to be lied to, because the truth might be too difficult to face.

Rye Catchers managed to capture this feeling with unnerving easiness, and does it with a smooth production that sways between universes of sound like crossing a street. It’s an alluring dynamic that oscillates back and forth between soul and synthpop, unravelling as an infeccious earworm that feels deeper the more you think about it. “Lie to Me” is a song about choosing uncertainty and accepting its consequences, hiding away from the truth regardless of what it could mean down the line.

A shiny example of David’s creative production skills, “Lie to Me” also shows the band stretching themselves with an adventurous new step to their music. On their new single the group sounds confident and prepared to face the lie, wearing their hearts on their sleeves all the way. Rye Catchers was never afraid to deal with hardships in their music, as heard on something like “Creeping On Me“, so the decision to face away from it this time makes “Lie to Me” a rather fascinating listen.
