The four tracks of “Irish Goodbye” wrestle with feelings of betrayal, emotional severance, and personal growth, which aren’t manufactured but come from real-life experiences.
Comprised of three talented musicians from the underground scene, deathsleep emerged in Bend, Oregon, when frontman Gareth Lastinger (Those Worth Saving / Life Alive), guitarist Ben Rosett (Strawberry Girls / Pretty Cute Band), and drummer Dillon Marra (Levelhead / Indian Giver) united their distinct talents.

“Irish Goodbye” is an exceptional debut that showcases their captivating single “Moon Omens.” With a bold infusion of the emotionally intense and instrumentally rich realm of post-hardcore, deathsleep draws profound inspiration from iconic bands such as Saosin (particularly their early work with Anthony Green), Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance, Hopesfall, and Glassjaw.
Opening with “Lamentations,” we are greeted by a stunning chord progression, enriched by Lastinger’s ethereal melodies. At just 44 seconds, the intro establishes a powerful tone for what’s to follow.
“Don’t Go” features a similar chord progression, with powerful drums intensifying the sound as Lastinger’s vocals elevate to new heights. His mastery of blending melodic singing with fierce screams is a hallmark of the genre, drawing inspiration from early 2000s emo to the progressive soundscapes of 2010s acts like TesseracT.
“Diamond Eyes” captivates not only due to its recognizable name linked to Deftones’ 2000s hit, but also because the vocals strikingly resemble those of The Weekend. The outro showcases a very nostalgic “tapping” guitar lick that all 00’s Alt Rock enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate.
Seamlessly bridging the previous track, “Moon Omens” stands as the powerful second installment of “Diamond Eyes,” exuding a more intense and exhilarating atmosphere. It serves as the captivating finale, definitively concluding this extraordinary listening experience.
