May 7th sees the release of Layla Kaylif’s powerful new single “God’s Keeper”, a pop song with oriental touch telling a story of spiritual delusion of a mortal soul wishing to protect God from others. In the whirlwind of the sacred and the enticing, “God’s Keeper” reveals who really needs to be kept, and it’s not God.
Listeners loving the sound and tales of oriental pop music are about to receive a true treat from Layla Kaylif. “God’s Keeper” sounds like it has come straight out of a movie with gold-laced black and white patterns and the passion for serving the divine being its driving force. In this story, a person most faithful to their God has taken on a very passionate task – protecting God against people not aligning with the religion’s rules.
But does God need any kind of protection? In between the mystical notes and energy-filled beats, the person is seen diligently studying religious scripture and trying to look bigger in spite of the coward hiding inside their worst dreams. From outsider’s perspective, the man seems so hopelessly lost. He himself doesn’t want to appear so.
Protecting the divine as a mortal soul sounds like a grand task, but unlike us, the divine can take care of itself. The faith-driven person is one needing to be kept, and he will need to understand no other mortal soul, believer or not, can do any harm to the divine forces either.
Layla Kaylif’s new song is a bold and moody statement on the topic of religion and what some people are willing to do in the name of their God. The English-Arab singer-songwriter collaborated with Johan Bejerholm on the new single, and her own desire – instilling hope into the souls of desperate and lonely – is what keeps Kaylif busy writing more music.
