An unfillable void left behind from someone she knew for her whole life is met with poignant piano chords joined by a saxophone singing sadness. A lonely (inner) child looks into the void and towards photographs and memories of her mother. A heartfelt line of thoughts are poured into lyrics sung by her emotional and powerful voice, saddened by the departure and finding comfort in the warm memories and life lessons learnt together.
The timid beginning soon grows into an elevated celebration of hope and gratitude for her mom. Though she may be gone, her love still radiates and remains as a driving power to help get through the sad days, while nostalgic warmth of memories brings back the smile. Somewhere in the astral plane, mom’s spirit is observing where the daughter will be going next and smiling at her successes.
Simone dedicated the song for her best friend, who had lost her mom recently. A Facebook memorial post written by the friend were turned into lyrics to bring comfort and solace, as well as the solemn presence in grief.
