American indie rock quintet Indoor Friends makes a stellar return with “Fired Up”, their self-proclaimed “first song with an aggressively positive message”. Channelling the unbeatable pop punk energy and emulating acts like Paramore with ease, the Boston-based band delivers a track fueled by optimism that captures the youthful spirit of hopeful wonder.

Written by frontwoman Amanda Bysheim, “Fired Up” is an impressive track filled with adventurous pop hooks and an infectious sense of invincibility. Their admiration for the early 2000s emo pop punk scene is palpable every step of the way, as told by the band themselves: “Bands from that era had a unique ability to tap into angst, hope, and rebellion, and we set out to do the same”.
Indoor Friends brings forth an entirely different energy than the one explored on the previous single “Psyayayduck” last February. While still tackling mental health struggles head-on with an unwavering sense of humor, “Fired Up” does exactly what its title suggests; inspired by reflections on growing older as millennials, the band delivers a fiery tune that feels like a power-up. It’s a bold track that challenges what is expected and does the impossible to hold on to its youthful spirit.
Armed with contagious guitar riffs and impeccably delivered vocal melodies, “Fired Up” shows a band that is unwilling to stand down and let the world stomp over them. It does an amazing job in portraying the unshakable feeling that any and everything is possible and servers as a perfect illustration of relentless positivity. “Fired Up” speaks of defiance and non-conformity; in a world that is constantly putting you down, the best revenge really is to live well and feel happy – even if it’s just to prove them wrong.
