The NEw Citizen Kane’s newest offering, a summery single titled “San Diego”, takes the listener to the bustling city where tropical weather meets endless action. In there, one man remains enamored by the city as a place of romance and subsequent heartbreak, and the single follows his story, a lovestruck man now residing in San Diego and pining for more.
Living on the edge of Pacific Ocean results in a breezy sound reminiscent of driving a cabriolet along the roads running by the ocean at sundown. Synths swaying between gentleness and intoxication paint the visual of the whirlwind of love and what it’s capable of doing to an unsuspecting man.
Driven by love and the memories of love, “San Diego” fills the room with nightly sounds of a tropical city, and the poignant, intimate thoughts of a man looking back into the passion of love and the subsequent loss of it. And although those brown eyes or that enigmatic smile no longer belong to his present life, the haunting memories paired with summer sky lined by palm trees keep him around, still riding the high in the cabriolet by the ocean with no desire to ever leave.
