Pure, vast and crystalline atmosphere sets in with slowly approaching melodies echoing from the distance. Piano notes find themselves wrapped in the veil built by strings, slowly picking up pace towards something bigger yet to be revealed. Swirls of strings gain more layers with each passing moment, some reminiscent of ecstatic soaring birds and others finding themselves in chilly air above stunning views.

It’s anticipation, admiration and discovery with all senses open, exploring Icelandic landscapes known for its beauty yet still capable for being absolutely breathtaking. A minimalistic approach is used, letting individual sounds shine through and take shape of various little elements found in the rugged landscape. The soaring strings, played live by Martin Kutnar and Session Strings Studio, give “Scania” a core of something alive and constantly evolving, revealing new sides of itself.

The piece was born from a recent trip to Iceland, which left the artist with a long-lasting impression, captivated in the minimalistic, slowly evolving sounds. Soek explores the combination of lively, natural instruments of classical music woven together with the possibilities offered by electronic music, rhythmic minimalism following the textures of nature. “Scania” has become the leading single for Soek and welcomes listeners to experience the piece on a good sound system, with eyes closed. You’ll feel the brisk oceanic breeze of Iceland in your face.
