Rejoice, enjoyers of classical music, as Raynald Grenier is back. This time the composer has a big release in tandem, and it’s “The Compilation Album”, a full-length LP consisting of magnificent classical music compositions arranged on the record for an magical and epic adventure.
As a fruitful composer, Grenier has created lots of classical music pieces, some of which released and some of which still waiting backstage. “The Compilation Album” contains 13 pieces carefully selected from previously released works with an intent to put together a journey. As the LP travels through the variety of Grenier’s compositions through the years, it builds a cohesive cinematic an emotional voyage, where magic very much exists.
Within the album’s 1 hour runtime, minute moments of gentle melodies create foundation for the big things to happen. From the nostalgic waiting-for-the-rain state in “Dolci Momenti” to the brooding atmosphere of “The Fortress”, a previously unheard fairytale is set in motion to tell a story of strange, captivating places with strange creatures.
Where the melodies dance together into new heights, like in “Nostalgia”, electrifying events take place. There’s place for the familiar, like the slow and majestic “Canon in E Flat” and there’s time for the terrifying moments only for the bold. Such is “Wrath of the Gods”, featuring strong brass section and haunting choir. Quiet moments are present here too like little interludes putting together a place where mortal souls should not venture into.
Some parts of the journey, such as “Lieder”, feature opera vocals flourishing on the lines of emotion, drama and change. In those moments, the height of absolute glory is achieved. In “Maria Mater Dei” relies a birthplace for all things divine, as a churchbell rings and slow majestic swells of chords wash over to set a pristine stage for a duo of angelic opera voices.
“Doux Instants” revolves through different keys and tones to generate an atmospheric tension/release. In this way, Raynald Grenier presents a soothing track that easily reaches the depths of the listener’s soul, making each different person feel a distinct emotion, realize the power of music, and fall in love one more time.
Raynald Grenier loves the effortlessly magical atmosphere created by classical music by composers like Mozart, Mahler, and Beethoven, and the artist brings that energy into his compositions. The biggest presence of magic lies in the fleeting moments, from which Grenier picks them up and places them into seasonally flavored, multilayered symphonic pieces, bringing a feeling of golden, full-bodied classical charm into daily life.
