Jacqueline Cordes, a young and talented contemporary classical music composer, introduces her newest work,a piece called “Illusions of Amethyst”. Exploring the world of music through the patterns and colours invoked by synesthesia, compositions of Jacqueline Cordes are nothing short of sheer magic, and the new piece building a world out of purple keeps the bar up high.

Purple is possibly the most magical and royal colour they’re is, and those features are the core of “Illusions of Amethyst”. Swirling with melodies like anticipation before entering a massive crystal cave only to be blown away by the sheer unimaginable beauty, the piece combines the untouchable wonders in the realm of magic.
Alongside the grand parts where choral voices flow along with a full orchestra, there are quiet passages for the little sparks of magic. A piccolo flute’s high and soft melody awakens visions of tiny creatures that call this place home, and piano melody with a choir embodies hard to capture essence of life that powers everything. Within the caves lined with amethyst, a brilliant melody sings about the magic of life.
The piece is accompanied by a music video, a short film “the Dollmaker”. Driven by the same magic that spawns from the core of the piece itself, a story of a mysterious dollmaker takes place. From lovingly crafting body parts from blocks of wood to the first movements of the newly constructed doll, this little fairy tale, accompanied by beautiful music, makes one forget about the mundane world surrounding us and brings a spark of magic to real life.
Jacqueline Cordes is a quickly rising name in the neoclassical world. The budding composer’s first full-length release, “Singularity,” served as a proper introduction to the endless worlds created by music and synesthesia. Her imaginative, complex, and yet highly approachable compositions have gathered favourable attention even on an academic level.
In the future, Jacqueline hopes to work full-time as a film music composer. Until then, the busy artist can be found making digital art, performing live and, most importantly, expanding the Chromaverse.
