Canadian singer-songwriter Lovely Trees has just revealed a large body of work of hers, a full-length album titled “Songs for the Visitor”. Born from an intimate place, the record witnesses the artist’s journey through love, loss and life in the aftermath of death and grief. The single “Talk To Me Noise” is part of the fragile time, a song deep in grief and looking for everyday items and passing birds, intently listening for the loved one’s presence.

In a haunting landscape of loneliness, a stroll down the lone road continues. The fatiguing business of daily life has been pushed further away, as all senses are open, keenly waiting for a signal. Along with the echoing guitar strums and the foam of sorrow, a sad voice sings a story of how she ended up in here.
“I think you would want me to be happy, but I’m letting you down here,” her voice says with a tone of deep sadness. How can one be happy if the loved person is no longer here, if he was the source of happiness. Thus, on the stroll through a misty blue realm continues, looking at passing objects and listening to sounds emitted by everyday items. She’s looking for a sign of presence, any sign. Through the tears of grief and with the only comfort coming from the feel of him being near, she desires to see and hear that presence in her space, in any form. Including the quiet background noise.

The album, “Songs for the Visitor”, follows a sad period of a huge loss and was created in honor of the loved person, her husband and musical partner, Mike Young. Recorded in her home studio in Toronto, the process of creating the album was a sacred time of reflection and connection with Mike’s memory. On the album, 10 songs are lined up exploring the depths of grief and love through evocative, lonely, atmospheric sounds. For anyone who has lost someone really important to them, this record is going to hit hard.
Lovely Trees, aka Sally McKay, a long-time musician in Toronto, has now opened a new chapter with a new alias named after long-standing living beings, weaving deep connections. She continues to create thought-invoking music connected to personal experiences, putting difficult and painful experiences into gentle and heartfelt songs.
