Alternative rock trio Replaced by Robots is back with “the Ocean”, their first brand-new single since dropping a CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED EP in January. Featuring German artist Heather Joy Morgan alongside producer Goolkasian from The Elevator Drops and Adam Wade of The Funeral Party, the band delivers a sound inspired by new wave, ’90s dream pop and post punk with intricate textures and lasting impression.

“The Ocean” is a very interesting step for the band, whose previous EP focused on an angular post-punk guitars and catchy choruses, showing that Replaced by Robots has a lot more tricks up their sleeve than we all could’ve assumed. On their latest single the band bets on reflective vulnerability with unwavering atmospheres that expand on the kind of world building hinted at by “Since You Broke My Ouija Board” from the EP. An incredible surprise and expansion of their sound with dazzling consequences, “The Ocean” finds the band at their most mature and serene so far.

Accompanied by a surrealist video filled with overlays of natural beach landscapes, vintage effects and captivating performance footage, “Standing in the Ocean” is a remarkable track that brews itself slowly. Taking inspiration from the likes of Mazzy Star, Flaming Lips and David Bowie, their new single is a cinematic and reflective track with dreamy atmospheres and thrilling energy. “The Ocean” unfolds with powerful distorted guitars and cryptic lyricism, highlighting the evocative melodies with immense emotional payoff. It’s a track that accumulates tension organically and releases it through post-rock dynamics, matching the intensity of collective catharsis with the depth of personal epiphanies.
Stram now!
A more-than-remarkable track coming from one of the most promising new names in the realm of alternative rock, “The Ocean” shows a band pushing themselves forward and embracing all of their past experiences, converging them into something that gleams and glistens brighter than ever before. Replaced by Robots delivered a breath-taking track, a banquet of sounds and moods as natural and shapeless as the ocean itself. The ebbs and flows of its pacing emulate the magical beauty of witnessing waves crashing at night under a starry sky, providing a moment of solitude and contemplation but never loneliness – and I cannot wait to see where they go from here.
