A guitarist, songwriter, and producer, John Goldrust embodies a unique blend of talents as an artist. He finds profound healing through music, crafting his songwriting from abstract ideals and first principles rather than simply echoing other artists or adhering to established formulas.
“How Like The Goddess” is a track that boldly defies expectations. With its up-tempo energy, clean guitars, and dynamic percussion, it delivers a punch that’s impossible to ignore. Yet, beneath the vibrant surface lies a profound and personal exploration of how love in a relationship can take a troubling turn. It may not be immediately obvious, but Led Zeppelin’s influence resonates powerfully throughout the single’s striking sound.
Led Zeppelin is an influence for this song and it’s production, given it’s Rock-inspired chord riffs and higher pitched vocals in the bridge and lead guitar overdrive and distortion based on Jimmy Page’s Guitar sound.
Goldrust draws powerful inspiration from Paul Simon’s legendary song, “Bridge over Troubled Waters,” yet the lyrics reflect a continuation of his previous works. This is especially evident in his forthcoming album, “Travellers In Timing,” where this song stands out as a compelling new addition to the album’s rollout.
In this deeply emotional and autobiographical release, Goldrust stepped into the roles of lead and rhythm guitar, along with drums. The song poignantly narrates the tale of John’s past relationship, which concluded painfully and left him with an unsettling lack of closure, ultimately altering the trajectory of his life in profound ways.
The concept of the song and reference to ‘The Goddess’ alludes to the question of whether the relationship between the genders is changing in modern times, driven in particular by the media and perhaps a hidden agenda behind it.
“How Like The Goddess” is brimming with daring intellectual provocations and razor-sharp social critiques, challenging the notion of ‘female empowerment’ alongside Homer’s ‘Odyssey’. It amplifies the voices of countless men who have been marginalized into a forgotten underclass, seduced by toxic ideals that degrade rather than elevate their existence.
For John Goldrust, this project has been an incredibly challenging yet transformative journey on both an emotional and self-healing level, requiring countless hours of heartfelt self-reflection and peaceful meditation. The songwriting and production process unfolded over the past two weeks, driven by an intense and focused passion. This dedication has resulted in a track that feels authentically fresh and truly present, as he prepares to share it with the wider world.
