Backed by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist David Taro and co-produced alongside London-based artist Kitch, Fiona Amaka unleashed her new single “Desert Flower” in the final stretch of last year. It’s an upbeat and uplifting track that showcases the English artist’s abilities to immerse herself in lovely early-90s indie pop without losing her interesting post-punk edge and folk sensibilities.
Unfolding like a Heavenly track, “Desert Flower” feels like the most natural and perfect step for Fiona to take. After experimenting with classic post-punk dynamics (“No Daylight“) and spirituality, as in “Honesty (Psalm 139)”, Fiona stands with grace amongst hopeful guitar riffs that shine with grit as well as comfort. “Desert Flower” is driven by delightful melodies and a stunning bassline that serve as the perfect backdrop for Fiona’s unmistakable vocals to take root.
The track was inspired by her own daughter, with lyrics that reflect feelings of pure joy, empathy and admiration.
