Tracy Eckstrand, an American singer-songwriter living in Rochester, has started the new year off with a brand-new single, “Sisyphus”. Lending the name from the myth of a former king, rolling a massive boulder up the hill for eternity, the single likens the effort to daily battles brought on by life. Whether it’s an uphill battle with work, mental health or one’s family, the visualized boulder remains a burden, but our resilience shall not break.
The personal uphill battle Tracy Eckstrand unravels in her new song is connected to the artist’s desire to reach where she wants to be. A path of uncertain length leaves the boulder looking particularly intimidating and the ‘Sisyphus’ feeling doubtful. But at the same time, the desire and willpower keeps encouraging to try and push forth.
Driven by the twangy flavor of Americana, the song weighs heavily from the burden standing on one’s soul, sometimes stumbling from doubt. But it’s the resilience and determination that echoes from Tracy’s deep, emotional voice that gives the track its power. Having that purpose set and the soul aching for reaching further, even the most impossible-seeming paths become just a little bit more manageable.
Where shall the path go? How long will it take to get there? Is it going to be any different? Those questions and more shall only be answered once the boulder is rolling up of the hillside.
“Sisyphus” was co-written with Tracy’s long-time producer friend, a fellow singer-songwriter Jordan Ruiz. The single joins previously released “Boss of Me” on the soon-to-be released full-length album, set to arrive in April this year. This release will be the first one Tracy and Jordan created together, and 5 of the songs were made in Jordan’s Good Nook Records studio.
