Taken from their 2025 record Shamanic Faultlines, Australian goth duo Golem Dance Cult has released a brand-new video for their single “Pretty at Dawn”. One of the most impactful tracks from the band’s second album, “Pretty at Dawn” feels reminiscent of post-punk and darkwave as if told by Nick Cave.

The track offers organic strings and deep orchestrations that flutter alongside haunting atmospheres, leaving the heavy and intense guitars a little to the side to focus on the drama. So naturally the Belgrave-based duo released a video that is just as intense and just as beautiful.
Created by Milan Bruneau and edited by Klaus Karloff, the video is a striking animation that effectively captures the vivid imagery of the song’s lyrics. Set against a predominantly black background, simple and uncertain lines twist and bend to form silhouettes that play with the dark concepts of the track, bringing crows, moons, bats, and broken hearts fully into view. There is a peaceful quality to it as well, interwoven with images of night that rely on chaotic and quick changes to move the story forward.
It’s a gorgeous video that makes the most out of its minimalistic approach, portraying incredible intimacy and second-guessing with ease. Humor is also present, adding yet a new layer of meaning to the drawings that feels purposeful and light even when in the face of vampiric metamorphosis and its implications. It represents “Pretty at Dawn” perfectly, playing with its unusual atmosphere and soothing melodies just as much as it does with classic horror tropes, making it an immersive experience like the song itself.
Golem Dance Cult’s music straddles between realism and the supernatural, and their latest video is a representation of it all. The band does an excellent job handcrafting such unique textures and cinematics, oscillating whispery vocals with moments of vampiric tension perfectly illustrated by the production.
It’s a breathtaking track that deals with secrecy and trust, exploring the emotional whiplash of when things aren’t what they appear to be, accompanied by a video that revolves around making each and every one of those ideas something real and tangible.
