Peningo Riders return with sophomore single “Love Ain’t Everything”, reminding us about the work it takes to make something last

Following the success of their debut single “Duck That Jeep” at the tail end of 2025, blues and americana outfit Peningo Riders return with “Love Ain’t Everything”. Born out of a frustrated cry about a personal romantic entanglement during a guitar lesson, “Love Ain’t Everything” flips the Beatles-esque narrative of ‘love is all you need’ in interesting ways by both criticising and playing into it at once. Their americana-flavored melodies swoon and sway with careful precision, made even more impactful by the chant-like vocals during the chorus.

On their new single the Peningo Riders manage to add intriguing layers of emotional weight and intricate lyricism that boils down to ‘love ain’t everything, but it’s a real good start‘. It’s a simple premise and definitely a true one, but the way the New York-based duo delivers it makes it feel like a refreshing and utterly nice take on romantic relations. It takes more than love to make things work, it takes commitment and honesty – but, yeah, if love isn’t the starting point, it doesn’t really matter.

It’s a very straightforward track in its message, and frontman Eddie Pellon says that this track was “the spark that actually started the band“. The artist also continues to point out that the single “delivers the hard truth that love is an enticing starting line, but it’s not the finish line” before finally concluding with its ethos at once: “the real work happens after the honeymoon phase fades“. There is something highly universal about this thought process, it states things that are true and everyone knows but does it in a non-condescending way as if just to remind us of something we might’ve forgotten.

There is also a kindness to the track itself, even when the lyrics on the verses speak about things that went wrong and why the relationship ended. “Love Ain’t Everything” stands as a gentle reminder of how much work actually goes into making romantic endeavors last, coming from someone who’s seen the other side of it firsthand. All done with remarkable southern rock sensibilities that show the band’s artistic growth and evolution from the debut single. Peningo Riders delivered a track that doesn’t judge and never gets angry at a failed relationship, instead offering sympathy and understanding even when it hurts.
