Hailing from Kingston upon Thames, in the country of England, The Report is an alternative rock act that has been releasing several singles and EPs since way back in 2019. Their latest offering is A Thousand Acts to Follow, a five-song EP that stands as a compilation of previous singles from 2025 alongside new track “Take Me Home”. The record stands as the culmination of a huge creative leap for the band and shows them expanding into new nuances and solidifying their own identity.

The Report shines bright with influences that range from classic 60s and 70s dynamics to the unmistakable sparkle of 90s alternative rock, handcrafting a sound that is dynamic and feels like the perfect amalgamation of mature indie rock and refreshing throwbacks. The english band shifts between Phil Spector-inspired girl group dynamics to soar over dream pop ambiances remarkably swiftly, always channelling both the past and the future of indie pop with impeccable precision.
“Wise Up”, first released back in last October, finds The Report infusing their brand of indie with the sensibilities of Belle and Sebastian alongside touches of classic psychedelia; while “Summer Rain”, the lead single of the project, follows their personalized take on atmospheric acoustics. Their melody-driven sound feels expansive and intimate as they take on topics like quiet acts of kindness that often go unnoticed, finding the courage to release your own inner strenght and even a call to action as a response to our collective denial of climate change.

The greatest highlight from the record falls with the new track “Take Me Home”, influenced by Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. as well as 60s harmonies. It’s a driving anthem of resilience and compassion that invites the listener to take control of their own fate, backed by sparkling pianos and soft guitars. The Report navigates through it all with tremendous confidence and self-awareness, creating a safe place for self-reflection and introspection that is lively and authentic at every turn.
A Thousand Acts to Follow is the portrait of a band that finally grew into their own and stands tall as a mirror ball: reflecting their references and influences right back at the world, creating a unique shade of personal identity in the process. It’s an EP that is as subtle as it is incisive, one that thrives on artistic and interpersonal growth without ever turning its head on its own past work. The Report created a fully realised experience on their new record that finds new ways to highlight how good they actually are and how strongly they stand on their own, even amongst the overflow of new music that is released every single day in our times.
