Behrang Ghodrati, Iranian composer and musician, has recently released his newest full-length album, “Celestial”. On this LP, 10 instrumental tracks have been lined up to offer the best of Ghodrati’s sublime and dreamy compositions for evocative nighttime listening, and it all is kicked off with one particularly heavenly track, aptly titled “Way to Heaven”.
The journey into heavenly realm takes place as the world slows down with a subtle flood of echoing chords. A wailing solo of an electric guitar stands out as a guide for the upcoming journey, as well as a narrator without words for the emotions that arise. It’s surrounded by calmness of the deep night, far from the busy stuff happening in daylight hours. And the guitar depicts that rather indescribable feeling one gets when the moonlit sky looks particularly three-dimensional and … Inviting.
Once the gaze has been set, the song shifts from the free-floating, constructive phase to one with rhythmic buildup, when the guitar’s sultry singing is combined by gentle percussive elements lent by synths and muted hihats. You’re free from gravity and able to go explore the layers of clouds running past the Moon.
But be sure to buckle up – this song is about to fold its wings for a dive of ecstasy like a falcon of the night. Now at a great speed and height, the narrating guitar goes straight to rock with a bolder, stronger sound. Whether it is determination to reach the heaven, or the pure joy of flying above clouds, the journey is about to reach the destination. When angelic voices appear, it’s time for the “Celestial” LP to start telling its story.
Behrang Ghodrati is a composer and producer with a long, fruitful history of writing music for a long list of film, theatre, animation and game projects, among others. His latest LP, featuring skilled guitarists, offers a glimpse into Ghodrati’s immersive music spiced up with influences ranging from smooth jazz to flamenco.
