Danielle Astraea is a New Jersey-based producer and musician who just released her first album Exostential under the project Crucifera. Created and produced entirely by herself in true DIY fashion, Crucifera carefully curates a heavy industrial sound with influences that range from opera to nu-metal and glitch electronics with remarkable clarity. The record’s tone is instantly defined by opening track “Labyrinth of Fools”, a hypnotic and powerful song that glistens with drama and intensity.

Danielle touches on themes of societal hypocrisy, how shallow and manufactured things seem to be nowadays and impossible it seems to break that cycle. The song takes on a nihilistic and pessimist tone as she exposes such topics with raw honesty, but without being able to see a way out of it.
Danielle has a way of bending and shaping her own sound that makes it feel alive. Rummaging straight through the heavy distortion, there are glimpses of pianos and choir arrangements that enhance its menacing ambiance while providing incredible depth. Her vocals swiftly shift from visceral screams to sultry, inviting melodies, more often than not within the same track. Exostential is unafraid to explore the darkest parts of the human psyche and clash extremes against each other, and it all starts perfectly on “Labyrinth of Fools”.
