Following the incredible EP Written by Caitty last year, which includes the great single “The Pieces That You Left“, UK-born and Australia-based rising star Caitty is back with the reflective “Not Country Enough for You”. On her latest single the singer and songwriter addresses the validity of her own chosen musical style, offering a poignant and vulnerable musing on other people’s perspectives of her.
The country pop artist reveals hidden insecurities as she tries to mold herself into the expectations of others, desperately trying to cling to her own truth while also begging for acceptance. It’s a deeply personal track that ultimately circles around the themes of realizing that by trying to please everyone, you lose sight of yourself and who you are. “Not Country Enough for You” is rooted in self-awareness and rebuilding her inner confidence, making it a striking first taste of what to expect on her anticipated debut album: “Slow Like Summer”.
“Not Country Enough for You” also raises questions about how uninteresting the conversation around strictly defining music actually is, killing creativity at every step. The most impressive part about the new track is how relentlessly warm and empathetic Caitty sounds even when confronted by such idiotic conversations. She swoons over gorgeous strings and americana-inspired guitars, her voice gently floating with wholesome melodies that evoke a myriad of emotions at once.
The artist, by this point, has fully established herself as one of the most interesting artists working within the alternative country genre. She adds elements borrowed from many different styles, crafting her own unique take on the centuries-old dynamics to make it refreshingly intriguing. “Not Country Enough for You” rises as a clap back that doesn’t shy away from her insecurities, but precisely uses them as her own strength. Slow Like Summer is surely going to further expand on and explore that personal intermoil, and I cannot wait for more.
