JT Catalano’s newest single “Cheers” is pretty much the artist’s homecoming song. Born from a culmination of new perspective and realization that came from experience and age, “Cheers” gives homage to the truly important figures, the often invisible ones that gave their part in shaping his upbringing. Here’s to the community!
The single creates an immediate, vivid image of a small town where people know each other and their kids, and where childhood is shaped by the surrounding community. Written in a blend of Americana and folky pop, “Cheers” is about a tight-knit community and shared lives in a place that is cosy and small, like home. It’s also about a young person who had left the town in search of something brighter, better, more interesting. For “Nothing ever happens in this place”.
15 years have since passed, and the kid is back, now a grown man. As the cheerful melodies of “Cheers” carry on and a choir of local audience sings along, the man finds that everything he’s been looking for was right here all along. With joy and gratitude, he reaches out to the real heroes of his early life for doing what they did, carrying a generation of kids to adulthood. They’re still right here, and the small town is still cozy as ever. A real home.
One would think that the glory of big city life fills the dreams of a young ambitious person. It’s certainly attractive, but not for long without anyone that knows you in there. And if you do manage to create a new cozy place away from home, the town of your childhood still carries memories of you.
JT Catalano is an uprising musician, hailing from his hometown of Bethel in Connecticut. He’s a skilled lyricist with smooth, rolling verses, making music in a variety of genres ranging from classic hip-hop to folk and Americana. Inspiration flows in from life as it is, resulting in highly relatable music, recorded in a way that gives rather immense listening pleasure. Particularly if you love hip-hop, americana, country, and folk, and emotionally direct lyrics.
