Ava Nicole is a brand-new voice in the punk rock scene, who has just stepped out into the open with her debut song “Birthday Card”. It’s immediately clear that she’s a voice to keep an eye on, as the single runs straight into the chaos, turmoil, and anger born from grief and resentment, all in the soul of a young woman who has suffered both loss and lies.

Have you ever been promised one thing by someone dear to you, only to be let down in the worst way ever? It’s a feeling that makes you both want to ugly cry and throw dishes against the walls, and you’re generally stuck with this alone. Well, not anymore – Ava Nicole makes you finally feel seen as she shares her own experience with someone who promised her so much, but in the end chose addiction over her. And this hurts in so many ways.

That world of pain is unravelled into stormy, high-energy punk rock affair where complex emotions are expressed by poignant vocals and rowdy guitars. Truthful, diary-esque lyrics tackle the troubling feelings straight-ahead and share exactly how she feels about someone that was almost mom to her. Despite all the promises that were made to her, the addictive needle ended up winning, leaving deep wounds that still bleed.

The most painful part of ‘Birthday Card’ is that it’s a story of a double betrayal. I wrote this about my mother’s ex—Anya. She was essentially my second mom. She was a ‘bad influence’ in the most literal sense, but she was also someone I loved deeply. When my mom finally had to leave her for her own survival, I held onto the hope that the loss would be the wake-up call she needed.

She looked me in the eyes and promised me she would get clean. I believed her. But when she overdosed, that hope turned into a white-hot fury. I realized that every promise was a stall tactic and every ‘I love you’ was wrapped in a lie. ‘Birthday Card’ is the sound of that realization. It’s about the moment you stop mourning the person and start screaming at the ghost they left behind.

“If this is your first time hearing my music, expect the truth—even when it’s ugly. I grew up as a theater kid with a rocker’s spirit, so my music lives in that space between high drama and raw, gritty reality. I write anthems for the ones who are ‘going through it,’ the ones who have been told to grieve quietly but would rather burn the room down. I’m not here to give you a polished version of life; I’m here to make sure you feel seen in the chaos.” Ava Nicole

This emotionally heavy alt rock debut will be part of Ava Nicole’s upcoming debut album “When Everything Is Said and Done”. Self-described as a theater kid with the soul of a rocker, Ava Nicole is a force to reckon – it’s time to stop suffering in silence and to let these feelings flow out from your system. She’s a great new artist for all lovers of rock and honest, unfiltered lyricism with influences from artists like Halsey and Paramore.
