New Jersey-based indie rock and folk band Quality Living is about to unearth their latest album Glacier, their first release since 2024’s Aggro Crag EP. Earlier in the year the quintet released “Sumac Red” and they’re already back with remarkable new single “Moon Is Out”, inspired by folk horror but still retaining quite a dreamy and lovely ambiance.
A shining example of the contrasts that will be splattered all over Glacier, “Moon Is Out” stands as an eerie but comforting track. Inspired by bands such as Modest Mouse and MJ Lenderman, the soundscapes navigated by Quality Living are very much driven by soothing melodies and remarkable attention to detail. “Moon Is Out” is described by the group themselves as the portrait of a “momentary night of restless sleep”, and such energy is very well captured by the production.

The track sits somewhere between americana and lo-fi indie rock, filled with cascading harmonies and organic textures that truly enhance the narrative. Quality Living isn’t new to the game, with records dating as far back as 2016, and on “Moon Is Out”, all of that experience feels extremely solid and unique like a band that has themselves figured out and are doing it with confidence and determination.
In between distorted guitars and inviting rhythms lies a certain sense of bittersweetness, delivered impeccably by frontman Darrel Norrell. “Moon Is Out” hands tightly in a perfect balance of late-90s indie rock and modern techniques, offering a refreshing take on indie folk that feels special and just as intimate as it is authentic. Glacier will undoubtedly keep that pacing going, firmly cementing Quality Living as one of the most interesting and capable indie bands of the year.
