Swiss electronic group Kadeus is back with a potent blast of a tune, “Faible”. Born from flames of collapse, this intense single explores demise caused by one’s own invisible cracks through the strong visual of a fallen zeppelin engulfed in flames. Imminent and unstoppable, “Faible” is what happens, when the crack leading to collapse remains unnoticed.
The title “Faible” is a French word for “weak” and “lacking of quantity, physical strength or intensity”, and in this song it refers to the weakest link within the system, whether it is the war zeppelin or our own mental health. In both cases, the outside sees the firepower or a person living their life, but nothing about their inner workings. Both, however, can be (willingly) blind to the little defects that slowly strengthen their grip.
In the tune, serene vocals outlining the delicate balance of mental health get contrasted with gritty, distorted synths. In the beginning, the grittiness is subtle and, in the background, but as the lyrics admit to having given up, the already started turmoil goes into overdrive. Punchy beat runs into flames while the industrial-sounding harshness saws into what’s left of one’s composure. To make the destruction more immersive, “Faible” is cinematic and soars to show the chaos and degradation in its full glory.
This flaming leftovers of a zeppelin on the cover art starts off as a whole operating machine in the music video of “Faible”. With an ominous presence in the sky, this thing lays destruction on its path. It’s designed to do so. However, the video keeps showing glimpses of the oddly fluttering engine on its right side…
“Faible” is the first taste of Kadeus’ forthcoming full-length release, scheduled to arrive in the summer this year. The Swiss electronic music collective is run on the love for bass music combined with immersive storytelling, creating cinematic and thought-provoking audiovisual works.
