Emerging American artist Truse just released his debut single “Tragic Comedy”, influenced by alternative rock and indie folk. On his very first track the singer already offers us a glimpse into his inner turmoils and hardships, zooming out and commenting on the state of the world nowadays. In between personal struggles and a decade-long fight against depression, Truse finds the time to focus on hope and understanding.
“Tragic Comedy” speaks about the communal sense of resilience in the face of war, political uncertainties and begs us not to give up. Truse has a very powerful message to share, and that is precisely it. “When I grew up in Beverly Hills I was very wild. I had a ton of friends and it was fun. But also crazy. So when I became depressed it changed me and I was forced to find a new meaning to life. It was the quest for wisdom and knowledge that saw me out,” he bravely states. “Tragic Comedy” is the result of that quest, done through simple melodies and charming DIY aesthetics that make the points hit even harder.
Truse says that it was art that got him through the rough patches, as well as the support from those around him. “My daughter Sadie, books, music, friends, family, support, and hope saw me through. If I didn’t delve so heavily into art and music, I wouldn’t be here,” he says, and that can be felt all throughout his debut single. The singer and songwriter unpacks his own experiences into universal cries of strength, trying to offer a small place of relief in the madness of the modern world.
His song feels and sounds like it’s bigger than any one person, though, shining a hopeful light into everything it touches. Truse also doesn’t mince words to point out how the narrative of war tries to distort the facts and make them about humanity’s sake, pointing out that there is nothing human about those types of conflicts.
It’s a powerful, impressively deep track that will certainly resonate with anyone who listens, making “Tragic Comedy” a remarkable debut infused with meaning and benevolence. Truse is definitely an artist to watch closely, as he has a lot to say, and we cannot wait to hear more.
