Timeless Afternoon, a band hailing from Greece, have just dropped eponymous debut album. Born after more than 30 years of activity, this release becomes a concentrated capsule of diverse, creative music covering multiple genres. What was once heard only whenever the band was playing live, has now found a way to vinyl and streaming services.

Through the years, Timeless Afternoon has gone through many lineup changes, naturally leading to new turns introduced in their sound. This is reflected by the album, which carries lots of funk, indie rock, blues, and more, melodies running hand in hand with individual themes. The release ends in a moody, heart spilling key of jazz with the song “Missing Worlds”.
Lively piano, melancholic fiddle and the lightweight percussion form a sturdy, somewhat defiant presence. The past, full of memories, reminds of all things one regrets, and this sea of memories is where the song dives to. Poetic, sometimes slightly cryptic lyrics describe how it feels to face those memories that swoop your way, while the piano’s drive remains constant just like the incoming waves of memories.
Those missing worlds formed from every decision made in the past now live inside the mournful atmosphere along with the fiddle’s pulled melody. This place, often a battlefield, is just what it’s like to live as a human person with maybe too many regrets.
“Missing Worlds” is one of many compositions created by one of Timeless Afternoon’s two constant members. Vocalist Kostas Pikoulas, who also plays sax and flute, is the mastermind behind writing the music, whereas keyboardist Nikos Petrellis helped this album’s release become a reality. The current lineup also has guitarist Harris Potsios, bassist George Nikolopoulos, drummer George Amaxas and a guest Alexandros Kakaroumpas, who plays string instruments.
“Timeless Afternoon” the album is a labor of love bound to be an inspiring find for anyone, who loves diverse, multi-genre sonic endeavors.
