British artist Fiona Amaka has just dropped her newest offering in the form of a single “Justified”, an emotionally stirring song of love and sadness. The song, which was previously released as a spiritual cosmic version and an intimate piano ballad, now stands before us in its full glory of what it was originally meant to be – a sultry, spirited song full of soaring emotions.
“Justified”, filled with longing and bittersweet notes of love, expresses those slowly burning emotions through the melodic wailing of an electric guitar. Surrounded by a spacious, crystalline atmosphere with a nocturnal feel not far off from those nights spent lying awake and thinking about past love, the song explores those dreamy yet stinging emotions on the topic of “What it could’ve been?”
Fiona’s tender and emotional voice, surrounded by pensive, nostalgic guitar licks, highlights the troubles of love with poetic sensibility. The song stands neck deep in nostalgia not only in terms of lyrics, but also with its vibrant sound with roots in 2000s.
Fiona Amaka has been working on the song since 2024, and it’s been a part of her live performances for about the same period. “Justified” has rightfully captured the audience in both solo performances and with Amaka Band, which both always featured guitars. Now, with the help of producer and session guitarist Andi Zanini, recording engineer Kate Proudlove, and producer Stefan Antoinette, the song is out for all in its full starry glory to embrace and to caress listeners and their souls.
