After the psychedelic experimentations of tracks like “Sweetheart” and “5…4…3…2…1…“, United Kingdom-based artist and musician Zachary Mason is back with a brand new EP in a softer direction. Welcome to My Heart is an introspective collection of three songs focused on self-reflection, dealing with themes of internal struggles and overwhelming sadness. It’s a very personal journey for Zachary, illustrated by acoustic instrumentations and gentle synths that hit you like a train.

The record’s true emotional centerpiece, however, can be found on the song “I Need Freedom”. Sonically it’s a perfect ballance of Zachary’s psychedelic influences as told through an acoustic lens and heavily inspired by indie folk, channelling Elliott Smith and Bright Eyes at their most experimental. The track is built around an atmosphere of melancholy and endurance, finding the Guildford-based musician seeking solace and change.
It’s a stunning track in which we can feel how vulnerable and honest Zachary is being across the full release. “I Need Freedom” stands somewhere between a battle cry and a desperate plea, highlighting Zachary’s emotional delivery and remarkable world-building. He’s never sounded so wounded and fragile before. Its oceanic progression adds immense depth to the song, capturing the suffocating feeling of captivity.
Welcome to My Heart is an intoxicating EP that shows Zachary’s artistic evolution and experimental nature in their most impressively detailed form. His vocals glide softly through rich soundscapes filled with lush textures, feeling like a lullaby just as much as it feels like giving up. Without a doubt it’s the most personal and vulnerable track Zachary has ever released, and it might as well be his best one also.
