Death Popsicle, Arizonian electronic music solo project, has just finished working on their first EP “Komusō”. The release, named after wandering Japanese monks of emptiness known for wearing woven baskets on their heads and pursuing detachment, opens a big window into the artist’s genre-blending and emotionally intense musical realm, and the EP starts off with a strong, wild song titled “Animal”.

At the core, we’re all just animals. We’re driven by instinct, trained to fight the instinct and trying to survive in society while also fighting it. “Animal” reflects on those struggles rooted in our ancestral foundation through moody, industrial darkwave soundscapes, where unease runs along with the desire of control and some sort of stability.

Inner conflict between instinct and societal pressure upon us is represented by fast-paced, almost violent verses. All what’s bubbling inside is poured out through quick, rhythmic rhymes, and the heavy moodiness shows its face in heavy beat, growling bassline and the emotional haze flowing between the notes. Caged by societal norms and fed with social media dope, the inner animal is struggling hard. Where once was freedom, there’s now only mental issues.

“Animal” and its exploration of existential dread and conformation against one’s will fit perfectly into themes the EP is made of. The release, created in the woodland of Northern Arizona, carries isolation and self-reflection into the stories, while expressing emotional weight through rhythmic and dark sound with industrial edge.

Death Popsicle creates cinematic dark excursions into living in a disjointed, alienating world. Inspired by artists such as Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and Type O Negative, the solo project bridges 90s alternative music with modern dark electronic production. It’s perfect for all who love uncompromising, dark, and raw sound with introspective lyrics bringing all the deep, dark, and troubled thoughts out to the surface.

“Animal” and the album “Komusō” will be out on July 31st.
