English indie pop duo The Kirk just released latest single “Butterflies”. Based in Middlesbrough, The Kirk is solidifying their name through singles and EPs since their debut last year and getting better with each new release. On their new track the duo collaborates with vocalist Liv on a gentle and soothing song about friendship and how delicate it is when it turns to romance.
“Butterflies” offers a subtle soundscape filled with intricate electronics and led by a serene piano, instantly creating an atmosphere that prioritizes warmth. The song is a pop ballad that captures the fragility and longing of falling in love with a friend, walking the finest of lines: could this actually work out? Is this feeling worth risking the companionship and love that is already there? And the answer is yes, as already told once by the great Taylor Swift.
The Kirk perfectly illustrates both the confusion as well as the excitement found in such situation, rooting itself in vulnerable storytelling and complexity of the themes.
