At the beginning of August, Teanko, a Dutch indie rock project, has released a new song “Between Two Selves”. As already hinted by its title, the song stands as a significant and meaningful milestone for the artist. “Between Two Selves” is an introspective journey into the emotions of someone, who has just come across a massive change in life, and now faces a whole different way of existence.
Fittingly for the big changes, the song opens up with the grandness of classic rock on main stage, and an introductory electric guitar solo swirling to high heavens. Here, the emotional voice of Teanko takes a look back into the busy life he’d been living so far, all the opportunities and work he’d picked up. It was a colorful and eventful life.
Now that he’s retired, a whole new life has begun, one that is much calmer and slower. That sort of change would’ve been enough to floor most busybodies. Not him though. The song’s uplifting melodies carry notes of acceptance and optimism, as the voice sings about adapting to the new way of life and that golden realization – “But this is where I’m exactly meant to be.”
Along with many other realizations, Teanko aka Dutch singer-songwriter Theo Konst figured that he now has much more time to indulge in activities he really enjoys. There’s now actual time for creative stuff like writing new music and finishing up existing pieces. For an artist, who has been writing, recording and performing his music for decades, this is undoubtedly a fantastic new opportunity.
Changes this huge are undoubtedly terrifying as it uproots your way of life so far. “Between Two Selves” aims to lessen the anxiety around the change itself and helps to see the positive that’s now ahead through poignant lyricism wrapped in pleasant and uplifting classic rock melodies.
