An enigmatic force from Irish indie music scene, aptly named The Elusives, have just released their debut single “The Strangler”. The dangerous and strangely addicting song sees the longtime live band finally coming out to streaming services and music stores to spread their smooth atmospheric sound far beyond their homeland.
As hinted by its title, the debut song dives into the unsettling shadowy realm of serial killers, where the very real danger of becoming a victim to one meets the thrill of danger and uncanny obsession over the killer. Here, in the foggy layers of growling basslines and echoing synths, imminent threat to life becomes adrenaline surging through blood. The mere thought of being secretly watched and assessed by someone with a twisted taste for human blood becomes the driving foundation to this dark groovy tune.
Inspired by the vintage 70s and 80s dancehall music and founded on the fictional serial killer character from a crime novel “The Strangler”, the single joins intoxicating dancy rhythms with the gaze of a human-shaped predator and sets them into one shared space, where darkness joins music at surrounding the dancing people. All of them vulnerable, aware and unable to see the hidden dangers just a few inches away, just like in any classic crime tales where murder happens in the moment of darkness.
The Elusives was born from a seed of creativity between multi-instrumentalist Paul Gilligan and vocalist-percussionist Joe Brady sometime in the 90s, and blossomed into a live band with a unique sound in 2014. The duo didn’t release any music, instead they stayed true to the name with elusive live performances at sold-out local venues. Then, in 2025 a third member, vocalist Laura Hand joined and completed the band. Now, the trio is ready to spread their wings!
