Released through the awesome 3NIGMA BRED MUSIC and featuring Grim Logick himself, MaTT DoDD’s single “Odds Got Me” fits right into the label’s ethos. The track from the independent artist from Havana, Florida, is a shining example of when inventive artistry meets resilience and vulnerability and shows MaTT at his very best both as a producer as well as a rapper.
Matt has been creating art and music for over thirteen years, capturing the genuine strength that comes with living with muscular dystrophy. He’s not a victim of his disability, but someone who takes life’s challenges by its horns and redirects with towards positivity without ever downsizing his personal struggles. On “Odds Got Me” the rapper flies through a classically inspired hip-hop production with impeccable melodies and enough flow to break any dam.
The song is taken from his forthcoming project FULL FORCE 2 and does an excellent job in highlighting its own message: “overwhelming odds do not get to determine the outcome,” according to MaTT himself. This is honed in precisely and carefully on the track’s animated music video, depicting MaTT in his wheelchair being a badass while facing a variety of obstacles – both mental and physical. “Odds Got Me” is a self-empowering anthem of toughness that is matched only by its own sensibility. It’s a track that finds itself right at the centre of acknowleding life’s unfairness and dificulties, and not letting them dictate the course of your entire existence.
MaTT says that the track was conceptualized with two independent angles on its production: his own and 3NIGMA BRED’s. Their relationship dates way back before this collaboration, having started with a mutual feature through Rapper and Rookie Reactions, hosted by KingCanada. This eventually blossomed into a trusting and artistic relationship that inevitably would make its way into each other’s music, and “Odds Get Me” is the first taste of what the artists sound like uniting their forces.
