The Lazz, the hybrid-human metal project led by veteran composer, guitarist, and visual artist Ben Lazzaro, unveils his latest single, “The Crown“. Serving as the opening chapter of Act IV: The Return, the track advances an ongoing, Jungian-inspired narrative arc centered on shadow work, internal transformation, and the perils of the human ego.

Ben Lazzaro has been performing and composing since 1982, bringing over 40 years of experience to metal composition. Holding an Associate of Science in Visual Communication (Honors), alongside a 13-year career as a professional 3D Digital Artist in the video game industry, The Lazz operates as a true multimedia enterprise, bridging digital art with musicality.
“The Crown” delivers a heavy, multi-faceted soundscape built on original, human-performed guitar and bass tracking. The composition powerfully weaves together groove metal, melodic metalcore, djent, thrash, and power metal, driven forward by heavily syncopated riffs and contrasting male and female vocal dynamics.
Beyond its technical craftsmanship, “The Crown” delves into profound psychological territory. As the threshold of Act IV: The Return, the single tackles ego inflation following personal transformation—the dangerous point where hard-won self-knowledge subtly transforms into a new persona or defense mechanism.
Drawing directly from Carl Jung’s concepts of the Shadow and Persona, the project examines what occurs after personal evolution, questioning whether true integration has taken place or if the ego has simply crowned itself under a different guise.
“The Crown” arrives alongside a full cinematic music video expanding the broader narrative world of The Lazz. While designed to bridge prior releases and future chapters in the continuous saga, the track stands as a powerful, self-contained release for fans of heavy, concept-driven music.
