Sienná, Norwegian-based electronic music producer of Japanese origin, is here to present her newly finished full-length release titled “EMA”. The 9-track album is an exploration of interconnectedness of everything from the artist’s perspective and was born from spending time in nature with a notebook and pen ready to capture the strings of meaning.

“EMA” is the 7th studio album from Sienná, and is a continuation to the artist’s genre-defying and rule bending forays into electronic music. On this release, communication with the spiritual realm is at the forefront, with themes of self-reflective nature reflected in poetic lyrics. The foundation to this album was formed during long solitary walks in the tranquil mountain forests in Kibune vally in Kyoto as well as the island of Ischia. Sienná found the messages fall down on her from the skies, and she placed them into songs in her notebook.
The results are much more varied than one may think. Throughout the tracklist, the journey goes from ethereal soundscapes with a strong presence of Japanese spirits to rhythmic repetitive electronic body music, to chants in droning bass-heavy atmospheres, and over to string-heavy orchestral grandness. All of it and more is coherently tied together and marked with a unique signature atmosphere of Sienná’s, where eastern sounds shake hands in friendship with their western counterparts.
First part of the journey, “Be a Seeker, Believer” was released as a single. It is a hypnotic song of believing in oneself and the driving power of determination. It comes along with a music video with watercolor illustrations of a young girl and her cat exploring the world and seeing the beauty behind each moment. Check it out below:
The strength of self-belief is followed by “Your Facts My Facts”, an electronic song of steady movement focusing on facts and beliefs changing from person to person, and the title track “EMA”, a slow and diving foray into choral vocals that blow away the sticky thoughts and allow perception to take hold.
Poignancy of self-reflection and recognising you see more in someone than they see in themselves runs deep in “Aenaria”, a gentle continuation of “EMA” the track. It forms an immediate and strong contrast with “369 (Miroku)”, a song with deep electrifying foundation of energy about allowing oneself be receptive to change and reformation.
The last 4 tracks on this journey walk through the spiritual intimacy and self-healing on “Finding Inner Sanctuary”, an otherworldly state of mind from fully embracing the surrounding beauty in “The Majestic” and writing down messages of your inner truth in “A Messenger”. The ending note is placed by “From Here To Where You Are” and its delicate sounds of water and traditional instruments transmitting glimpses of previous messages through calmly breathing soundscapes.
This album will ask you to stop what you’re doing and take some time off to sit down somewhere nice and calm with the music. You will be on an adventure yourself shortly to see the world as it is, and yourself as you are. A strange and beautiful album for the strange and beautiful existence.
“My music is a part of the AI-training materials. AI learns anything of course, but they obviously cannot learn mine without problems, as my music doesn’t always follow logical structures. It´s funny that electronic music doesn’t suppose to be so organic in the first place, but my electronic music for AI is very organic. I do “east-meets-west” things too, so I believe my destiny is to do “yin and yang” all the way. :)”
