Lawrence Timoni, Berlin-based artist making soul-driven alternative music, has just released his newest song “Cheap Glass Halo”. Constructed from an array of rhythmic elements ranging from finger snaps to guitar percussion and placed onto smooth bassline, the song builds a vibrant, lively atmosphere where unease meets undeniable groove.
Snaps, claps and rhythmic taps open a portal into a late-night atmosphere, where the air is thick from tension and the mood on a tightrope between ‘okay’ and losing it. All that has been written with precision into the rhythmic patterns and the bassline providing that deep, backbone-chilling energy. There’s no backing out from what is going on, what can be done is simply hold on for this rollercoaster of emotions, and “Cheap Glass Halo” is exactly that, a wild rollercoaster of rhythms and suspenseful melodies.
All that is tried to be kept hidden, is brutally uncovered by the single – fluttering racing hearts, poorly controlled emotional whirlwinds, noises from surrounding objects that may or may not be bothering these people. Emotional bursts come in the form of vocals breathing, leaping and underlining melodies, and depict the sheer discomfort. It’s weird here tonight, but here they are, the two people after what must have been some bad times, still not exactly comfortable with each other or even themselves.
This wild, groovy alt-pop single with a hint of jazz will come along with a visual side, also depicting the bright, vibrant atmosphere contrasting with massive amounts of tension and uncomfortable moments.
Lawrence Timoni is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer creating music where indie rock and art pop meet sound design, jazz and hints of electronica. His solo releases explore suspense and restraint, resulting in tight and well-controlled tales taking place in spacious, colorful spaces.
