Electropop project Aurealis is back with a new single “Exquisite”, just a little over a month since “How I Feel“. The American-based act continues to explore lighter and more relationship-based themes on the new track, offering a lush and glossy take on synthpop that feels larger than life.

“Exquisite” is built around arpeggiated synths and addictive beats, making it the perfect background for the kind of raw and authentic lyricism that Aurealis does do well. The latest song speaks of experiencing overwhelming feelings of attraction that cannot and should not be pursued, capturing the internal struggles and tensions that arise from it. Rather ironically, Aurealis crafts an accessible and soothing environment for that feeling to blossom and it gets harder with every beat.
It’s an euphoric song that aims for catharsis in a big cinematic manner, channelling the softness found in early Cut Copy with magnetic pop songwriting. The song is a boundless study on attraction and how to deal with it when you can’t act on it, resulting in a deeply personal and self-reflective track that constantly looks inwards.
That tension is illustrated by the slick and elegant music video that accompanies the song, portraying that attraction through a game of mirrors and lights. The constant push and pull is made palpable as the connection grows, perfectly paralleling the music itself.
This artist is quickly becoming a master of different styles of synthpop, taking on a wide variety of settings and themes on their music. This release is the latest installment in that evolution that firmly places them as someone who understands what connects people to music, and hopefully all of that will grow even stronger with each new material.
