Ph2, a duo of two Philippes making alt-rock and prog-rock music since 1998, released an atmospheric, thought-inspiring single titled “Something’s Wrong”. In this song, the duo looked deeper into the blessings and curses of human nature, wondering how is a species so creative and forward-pushing also so unbelievably cruel and destructive.
Humanity, period. Any steps forward by some part of society are met with just as many steps back in another place. Something is definitely wrong with us and new examples of that keep popping up every day. So, with the worn voice tired of this constant tug of war between two halves of humankind, “Something’s Wrong” begins to look into our history of achievements, and also the wrongdoings.
Melancholic and rather dark soundscapes create a hazy state of mind, where the desire for the collective humans to be so much better than this meets a frayed look and sadness in the depths of one’s soul. Slow and cinematic sound carries influences of progressive rock greats, while the vocals sometimes speak and sometimes sing with a heart heavier than dark matter. It’s depressing yet somehow kind of uplifting in the sense it’s not just you or me feeling that way. Yeah, we’re a cursed species.

Ph2 is Philippe Mercier and Philippe Moati, two multi-instrumentalists and artists, who have known each other since school. As adolescents, they were in two consecutive bands playing progressive rock influenced by greats of the era, like Yes, Mike Oldfield and Genesis. As they grew, the bands’ format became too restrictive for them, and the two got into studio work and its unlimited potential. With new inspiration from classical music and new generation prog rock, the two Philippes have been making wonderful, immersive music invoking vivid imagery for years and continue doing it.
