We’re glad to announce that Los Angeles, California-based instrumental progressive rock artist PAARIS has released a new single, entitled “Polaris.”

Enrique Marquez Paris, AKA PAARIS, is a guitarist, composer, and producer from Caracas, Venezuela. After playing in bands such as 1ra Edicion (VEN), Fauna Crepuscular (VEN), and Dankrupt (USA), and collaborating with multiple artists for more than 18 years, PAARIS is Enrique’s solo project, based in Los Angeles, USA and reflecting all of the guitar heroes that inspired him to pick up the instrument. Among others, PAARIS’s sound has been compared to progressive rock and -metal artists such as Plini, I Built the Sky, and Intervals, as well as to guitar virtuosos such as Joe Satriani and John Petrucci.

PAARIS’s first EP, “Nora,” was released in 2020 and caught the attention of important music outlets including Rolling Stone Mexico, New Noise Magazine, Gear Gods, Marvin MX, and Top Shelf Music among others, who all praised the guitar work and musicality of the EP. PAARIS’s second release, “Luna,” was considered by the media as the perfect song to close the first cycle of Enrique presenting his official solo project; and it was released along with a music video for the track.

“Polaris” is the first single from PAARIS’s upcoming album, entitled Valhalla, to be released on May 28th of this year. On this track, Enrique has collaborated with such excellent musicians as Anup Sastry (Intervals, Monuments), Joey Izzo (Arch Echo), and Rodner Padilla (C4 trio). Regarding the inspiration behind the track, Enrique writes, “So, during 2020 I started experimenting with new sounds… I have been playing guitar since I was 15 years old, but I recently picked up a 7-string guitar for the first time, and I fell in love with the capabilities that you can unlock by adding one additional string. POLARIS is the result of that experimentation, and it’s my first song composed on a 7-string guitar.” PAARIS have also released a great music video for the new single, which you can check out here:

“Polaris” is introduced by a heavy, djent-like rhythm guitar riff, atop which the lead guitar’s powerful melodic lines soar to create an uplifting atmosphere that resounds with energy. Precise drumming and resounding bass sustain the captivating guitar melodies, which are also complemented nicely by shimmering synth textures. The track is highly dynamic and engaging throughout, immersing the listener in an evocative, instrumental soundscape that surely attests to PAARIS’s brilliant songwriting and musicianship. As Enrique describes the new single, it “sounds like PLINI on steroids.”

“Polaris” is quite an enjoyable listen, and I would highly recommend this new single to fans of progressive rock and instrumental guitar music alike.
