We’re glad to announce that Dulliken, Switzerland-based melodic death metal band Ophelia’s Eye have released a new single, entitled, “Speak Words of Destruction.”
Ophelia’s Eye are Marco Shweizer (drums), Corinne Ryter (rhythm guitar), Michel Egloff-Sieber (vocals), Sandro Suter (bass), and Remo Lemp (lead guitar). The band was previously known as Project Penny and later on as Red Fire Dragon; however, as both names occurred to be to generic and not fitting the band’s music, they decided to change the name to Ophelia’s Eye, based on the novel “The Sandman” by E. T. A. Hoffmann.
The story is about the traumatic childhood experience of the student Nathanael, which makes its way to the surface through a surprising encounter with the weather glass dealer Coppola. He believes he recognizes the devilish lawyer Coppelius, who is responsible for his father’s death. When the beautiful but quiet Olimpia captivates him, he loses himself more and more between delusion and reality.
To make their name sound rounder, Olimpia is called Ophelia in the band name. Through their songs, the listeners should also lose connection to reality – at least for a while. Ophelia’s Eye are fully motivated to deliver highly energetic, modern metal, and “Speak Words of Destruction” is the second single from their upcoming EP, to be released on August 7th, 2021. You can also check out our review of “Fight or Us,” their first single from the upcoming EP, here.
Explaining the lyrical inspiration behind “Speak Words of Destruction,” Ophelia’s Eye write, “It is a processing of the partial separation, hostility and dishonesty of humanity and the desire to talk more and more openly with each other, to sort out problems and live more harmoniously together instead of relationships suddenly collapsing on you. Realization that most problems arise from poor or lack of communication.”
“Speak Words of Destruction” begins with the melodic, distorted charge of the opening guitar riff, driven by the formidable attack of the drums and thundering bass notes. Growled vocals complement the powerful riffs with abiding energy throughout the track, while a captivating guitar solo adds further to its engaging and dynamic atmosphere. “Speak Words of Destruction” is quite an enjoyable listen, reflecting Ophelia’s Eye’s brilliant songwriting and superb musicianship, and again demonstrating their impressive talent for crafting heavy yet melodic metal. I would highly recommend this track to fans of melodic death metal and metalcore alike.
