Mothman, The Man – “The Mothman EP”

This EP is a tremendous burst of energy that captures the listener right away. With a lot of Punk, grunge, and even lofi elements to it “The Mothman EP” is as energizing as a dozen red bulls. Extreme, powerful, unique. Listen right now!

Alright guys you better be sitting down ’cause today’s EP might possibly knock you out right where you stand. Right when you think that music has gone soft comes a new young group with the blasting abilities of a thousand nuke bombs.

Mothman, The Man, is a UK group created by Connor Childs (Mothman) (songwriter, guitar & vocals), Billy Mattock (drums & flugal horn), Finley Kelly (guitar) and Billy Tucker (bass & producer). These fine young men know how to rock out and they do so by delivering an outstanding amount of energy and enthusiast for the music.

This EP is a collection of seven great tracks, all of them explosive and Punk/Garage Rock inspired. What amazes me the most is that almost every instrument was played by one man. The Mothman himself: Connor Childs. What an exemplary display of power dude! Right on! Of course, he couldn’t have done it with the help of his bandmates, specifically of his bass player, Billy Tucker, who oversaw the recordings.

“The EP has been a long time in the making. It’s been my passion project since 2018 and has taken a long time to get off of the ground. After writing too many songs during the lockdown, these are the ones that I was most happy with. It’s loosely based on my own development as a musician and person”. Connor Childs

I could talk about each track, but I believe in enjoying art as a whole. And the bottom line is this, this EP is absolutely powerful from start to end. There’s a lot of influences from lo-fi fuzz folk bands from the ’90s like Neutral Milk Hotel, The Microphones, Pavement, etc. As well as more modern bands like Ty Segall, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and black midi. The energy in it is just ridiculous. Punk Rock at its finest, ladies and gentlemen.

But let me just try to describe the elegance and virtuosism of some tracks. For example, track no. 1 “Scott Pilgrim Type Beat” is just phenomenal. What a crunchy sound, zero fucks given. Lofi and Punk?? Well, yeah! So simple, so raw, so exciting.

Later on I was caught by surprise by track three “Do You Hear The Sounds?” when all the aggression seems to be turned down and replaced by an unexpected acoustic guitar and harmonized vocals. Never saw that coming. Only for a while tho, as almost instantly all the electrifying madness returns like a very missed hero returns to its birthplace.

I could go on and on, but for the sake of this article and your experience I think it’s best that you alone discover the unfamiliar grounds of this true work of art and decide if you like it or not! So go ahead, hit play and dance away you beautiful maniacs!

‘Mothman, The Man’ is a genre-hopping and sound experimentation project by a group of like-minded southwest fellas. If you’re after having your mind blown and/or an out-of-body experience, listening to ‘Mothman, The Man’ is the thing you’re after.
