Of Love and Pain was produced by renowned producer Hiili Hilesmaa (HIM, The 69 Eyes, Amorphis, Moonspell, Sentenced et al.), and is an amalgamation of Absinthe’s musical inspiration and life experiences, blending pop elements with aggressive guitars, solid, groovy drum beats and a variety of vocals with the ability to bring diverse audiences together.

Describing the backstory behind “Give The Devil His Due,” Absinthe Green tells us:
“This is a song about temptation. The story starts with the main character having a nice evening at home, strumming her guitar, while the devil pays a visit, knocks on the door and as he tries to seduce her, a dialogue begins.
The song was born writing the lyric inspired by sea-shanties’ rhythm and rhyme.
It features renowned musician Snowy Shaw in the role of the Devil.
My initial approach to this specific tune is to express the feeling of temptation through allegorical story telling, and music-wise I wanted to write a song that will be fun, playful and groovy for live performance.
I recorded the demo singing the Devil’s interlude part with a low voice, and then I immediately realised that it would be amazing if it was sung by a male person with natural low/ baritone voice.
I knew Snowy for more than a decade ago, and right away I knew that he was the right person for the role of the Devil, performance and image-wise. I was so happy to see that he liked the song enough to be a part of it. I feel like I subconsciously wrote that part exactly for him.”

For first-time listeners, Absinthe says, “I cannot characterise my music easily, I have various influences and stimuli in my songwriting and sonic approach. If you listen to our releases so far, the songs vary in style. But I think that the common denominator here is honesty. It’s music that comes from the heart.”
“Give The Devil His Due” is introduced by a powerfully heavy, blues-inflected distorted guitar riff, its sustained notes later joined by dynamic percussion rhythms. After a portentous opening lyric, the song soon takes on a faster tempo as Absinthe’s captivating vocals take the listener through impressive storytelling verses and a compelling hook-laden chorus, driven by energetic guitar chord progressions and deep bass notes. The tempo later slows down ominously, as Snowy Shaw’s low-toned vocals portray the Devil with the perfect sense of foreboding, before the chorus returns to conclude the track, this time highlighted by fiery electric guitar leads.
“Give The Devil His Due” is quite an enjoyable listen, showcasing Absinthe Green’s brilliant songwriting and superb musicianship. I would highly recommend this track to fans of hard rock and melodic metal alike.
