What’s going on my friends, it’s your boy MadZen and today we’ll be reviewing a very pretty and nostalgic track that inspires with its tenderness. Today is a very nice morning for me here in Mexico City, such is the reason why this track fits perfectly into my day. I hope it does for you is as well, wherever you are. On to the track!

Guys, I know I say this quite often, but if you don’t know who The Trusted are by now, you are really missing out. We’ve already have them on the blog a couple of times before but this track differs quite a bit from their past Brit-rock inspired releases. This time, as I’ve already mentioned, The Trusted exposed their most emotive side yet in this “electronic ballad”.

Singer/songwriter Tom Cunningham vowed to write a ‘song a day’, I’d assume that the lyrics for this track came out from such an objective. Lyrically, the song tells a very personal story of wanting to escape and find love again in a beautiful place. Like Arkansas!

“I remember, I had these beautiful peaceful shots of Arkansas in front of me. It was a stressful time, and I came up the concept of a character who wanted to escape to a place like Arkansas after being betrayed and let down by the powers that be.”

The Trusted tricked us into thinking that this single would be soft all the way through. Surprise, surprise! But I won’t spoil the emotion hidden in the track, I’ll just say that Tom’s vocals are beautiful, almost heavenly in certain points, and the instrumentation of reverb-drenched guitars, soft bass, and minimalistic percussion adds a tremendous amount of atmosphere. So, yes, it is pretty damn good.

The song also hints at a bigger dilemma, faced by anyone wishing to have their voice heard in this age of global instant communication, that of media saturation. As Tom very accurately describes: “we are living in an information renaissance. Internet culture is growing louder and yet it’s becoming harder to get heard.”

In deed it is, but luckily for you, here we are presenting this track to you, hoping that it doesn’t fail to reach your ears. So, don’t forget to hit that PLAY BUTTON NOW! Enjoy, stay safe, and see you in the next one!

Arkansas was recorded and produced by Rees Broomfield, SS2 Studios, and mixed by Grammy nominated Andy Bradfield (Elbow, David Gray, Rufus Wainwright).
