Elly O’Keeffe’s vulnerable and powerful single “I Hear You”

The talented singer and songwriter Elly O’Keeffe return with her first new single of 2023, the visceral “I Hear You”. A song about listening to your own inner voice and finding the strength to trust yourself, the Irish singer has outdone herself this time.

Having released several singles over the years, Elly has finally found her voice and style with this one. “I Hear You” is amazingly human, topped with an incredibly slick and tender production. Elly lets out her powerful vocals soar over piano lines and a simple beat, showcasing all of her singing talents in just three and a half minutes. The singer, who has reached the semi-finals of the reality show The Voice UK under the mentorship of Sir Tom Jones, also received well-deserved praise from the likes of Shania Twain herself.

There is a raspiness to her voice, and in the construction of “I Hear You” that instantly reminds me of Brandi Carlile’s The Story – and this is always something good to hear. On her latest track, Elly lets us in completely without holding anything back. The result is a song that plays to her vulnerabilities and, by doing so, reveals her inner strength – and she’s kind enough to share it with us. Elly O’Keeffe is no stranger to the music industry, having released an album as far back as 2010, but after said mentorship and the maturing that comes with age, she is sounding better than ever.

“I Hear You” is a powerful ballad that reels you from the first verse. By the time she gets to the ‘cause I hear you in the battle when everything is coming down‘ of the chorus, you’re already neck deep in her emotions and passion. There’s hopefulness to this track. She sings about finding the strength to follow your own dreams and path amidst the chaos of pain and love and invites us to the battle alongside her because she knows that we’ll win. And, boy, we do!
