Faded Shades Ask the Age-Old Question on new single “My Place (Or Your Place)”

Faded Shades "My Place (Or Your Place)

The London-based group Faded Shades is back with “My Place (Or Your Place),” their first single of the year, released last Friday, March 17th. It also marks the third release they’ve put out since we last caught up with them for the single, “Waiting on Tomorrow” last year in May.

In this song, they put their slick, hip, shoegazed brand of jangle pop on full display. Encompassing an overall upbeat energy, I’d definitely place it in the category of “feel-good” music generally speaking. From a lyrical standpoint, the band describes it as being a song about falling in love with a girl you shouldn’t have but having no regrets about it. The ultimate “sorry, not sorry” if you ask me.

Very much the epitome of a tried-and-true gigging band, performing at an impressive list of venues regularly around the London area, even the band recognizes the effect the song has had on their audience:

“It pops off live as well!”

With this specific track, the first influences that come to mind for me when listening to their music are Tom Petty and The Strokes. Yet, at the same time, it possesses a retro-new-wave type of vibe too that reminds me a bit of Modern English musically. The band specifically cites Paul Weller, Oasis, and The Rolling Stones as direct influences on their music. Taking a close listen, I would have to say that I very much pick up on that as well.

Faded Shades is a great recommendation for fans of any of those aforementioned artists. The band has an active engagement on social media and it’s a great place to keep up with their recurring live events and latest happenings. Give them a follow today!
