What an exciting time! It’s always nice to follow an artist from their very beginning, and that is exactly the case with UK producer See How and his debut single “Can’t Be Me” – and what a way to start! (Or, actually, to continue!)

This may be his debut solo single, but See How isn’t a total stranger – he is the British half of electronic duo Pariis Opera House, a production team that has been releasing music for over a decade now and has been lauded for their genre-defying approach to songwriting and production. On his first solo effort, we can see that See How can absolutely keep it up on his own with an absolutely stunning track.
We’re talking about a cross between a break-up song and a diss track, with lyrics that follow the aftermath of the end of a relationship; and things didn’t end nicely. ‘She can’t be me, I hope she never has to meet me‘, the female character sings in the catchy chorus over an insane production that features everything. We’ve got splashes of a 100 gecs-inspired hyperpop as well as a hip-hop beat and layered vocals that fit the general vibe of the song very well. An afrobeat influence and lo-fi bedroom pop too? Sure, why the hell not??
“Can’t Be Me” is a monumental track in its attention to detail, progression, and overall tone. The acid and ironic lyrics are backed up to perfection by the instrumentals and pace, always getting things in motion and not relying on anything other than the craft itself. This is an absolutely memorable debut single from a very talented and versatile producer who is just getting started on his own and will definitely go far.
